History of Siu Lum Hak Fu Mun

Hak Fu Mun (Black Tiger Sect) originated from Shaolin 200 years ago at Dao Kwong period of the Ching Dynasty. Every few years, a Shalin monk named "Siu Tak"would go to Guangzhou to beg for alms which gave him an opportunity to meet his fellow students. One day during his travel he arrived in the Shun Tak District (順德區) of Pak Kwong Heung (北崗鄉), where he encountered a local gentleman named Mr. So who offered him a room and board at his home for a short time. Mr. So further extended his generosity by providing him with food and financial assistance for his return trip.

While staying at So's home, each morning Siu Tak saw a muscular young man practicing boxing in the courtyard. The boxing seemed strong power but otherwise was quite flawed and lacked refinement. It was only good for health but could not defend himself. As Siu Tak was staying at So's home, it was not his place to say so and just let it go to avoid trouble. A few days later, when Siu Tak finished his affairs and was about to say goodbye to Mr. So, he saw the young man practicing boxing, so he talked to the young man his opinion. The young man thought that Siu Tak was a charlatan, so he ignored him and dismissed him politely. Siu Tak saw that the young man looked down on him, so he asked the young man to attack him. Seeing that Siu Tak wanted to challenge him, the young man immediately punched at Siu Tak's chest, hoping to dampen his spirit. However, Siu Tak gently deflected the incoming fist with his left palm and gently pushed the young man's shoulder with his right palm. The young man missed the attack. He was completely out of balance and was knocked down several feet away. Siu Tak then stepped forward to lift up the young man. Siu Tak asked about his origins and knew that the young man was Mr. So's nephew, named So Hak Fu.

So Hak Fu did not complain about Siu Tak because of his defeat, and immediately asked Siu Tak to teach him martial arts. Siu Tak refused because he had to go back to Shaolin Temple. So did not give up and asked to follow him back to the temple to learn martial arts. Siu Tak felt that So was sincere and had talent in martial arts, he then agreed So's request.

So Hak Fu practiced diligently in Shaolin Temple. He firstly practiced with stone locks, wooden dummies, etc. to strengthen his bridge hands as strong as iron rock and his horse stances firmly as tree root. Three years later, Siu Tak taught him various fist such as Ten Animals Fist, Drunken Eight Immortals, Kum Kong Stick, etc. So Hak Fu loved Ten Animals Fist as it was hard and soft, Simple and unpretentious. After six years hard training, So Hak Fu learned all martial arts of what Siu Tak had. He got his master's approval and left Shaolin Temple.

So Hak Fu left Shaolin Temple and was back home to see his parents. He as then accepted the invitation of his fellow villagers to be martial art coach. At his age of 24 years old, he was invited by his fellow villagers to teach martial arts in Guangzhou. So felt that there was limited development in his home village, he accepted the invitation. At first, he was a coach at fruit market. After three years of teaching martial arts, the school was settling down. He then handed over the martial art school at fruit market to his disciples to run. He then went out to set up new school. Since So Hak Fu's martial arts were superb, many people joined his school which made other martial art masters' jealous. Among them, a master named Lui from a big sect took opportunity to provoke and challenge So at So's school with tens of his disciples. At First, So pollitely gave in. However, Master Lui continued to provoke So with his outnumbered gang. So was forced to fight back. So alone defeated the group of Master Lui. After that battle, So Hak Fu became famous in Guangzhou. Due to his superb martial arts, he never met an opponent in his life. Even known as one of Ten Tigers of Guangdong. Because the martial arts of So Hak Fu was unique and authentic to Shaolin, his disciples call it "Siu Lum Hak Fu Mun" (少林黑虎門-Shaolin Black Tiger Sect)" for easy identification.
