Mr. Leung Ray's Letter to fellow martial arts

=== *** ===
To: Fellow Martial Artist Practitioners

Dear All,

I, Leung Wai, currently serve as the Honorary President of the Siu Lum Hak Fu Mun Wong Cheung Martial Arts Associaion. Reflecting on the 1940s, when Great Master Wong Cheung returned to Hong Kong after the war to teach disciples, I was among his first batch of students. Subsequently, Ko Fai, Chu Kong, and others also joined the school. Today, as I look back, it feels like a lifetime ago, though now I am a 90-year-old elder. The teachings of Great Master Wong Cheung in both martial arts and life conduct remain vivid in my memory. Beyond the master-disciple relationship, our bond was akin to that of father and son.

Over the past few decades, I have consistently supported and participated in the daily operations of our school. I have had the opportunity to get to know many of my fellow disciples and am fortunate to have earned everyone's recognition, being elected as the Honorary President. I am deeply honored! I hope to unite our collective efforts to ensure the continuation of the Hak Fu Mun's martial arts legacy.

After the passing of our late master in 1990, the association was managed by my fellow disciple Chu Kong, who served as president and handled the daily affairs of the association. However, ten years ago, Chu Kong was unable to continue in the role due to personal reasons, and fellow disciple Yeung Wong Hing was elected as president, a position he has held until now. During this time, the association has held annual anniversary dinners to foster connection and unity among our disciples. I have attended these events every year to show my support for Yeung Wong Hing and the work of the executive committee members.

A few years ago, our association received an invitation from the Hong Kong Wushu Federation to introduce and promote the martial arts of the Hak Fu Mun at a gathering. Fellow disciple Lok Wah Fai took the lead in this endeavor, which earned praise and recognition from the martial arts community. Following this event, the executive committee and the president agreed on the need to strengthen the association's external connections and internal communication among members. As a result, a series of initiatives were launched, including re-electing the executive committee, re-registering as a non-profit organization, creating a website, and actively participating in martial arts and community service activities. Throughout this process, the president and committee members have been driven by their passion for the Hak Fu Mun, selflessly dedicating their time and effort. Whenever important decisions were made, my input was sought, and I made sure to participate. We have always respected one another, prioritized the greater good, ensured smooth operations, and maintained a brotherly bond.

Unfortunately, recently there have been individuals of unknown background claiming to represent the Hak Fu Mun, even calling themselves titles like "Eldest Senior Brother" or "Sole Inheritor of the Hak Fu Mun." I am both outraged and baffled by this situation. I am outraged because the hard-earned reputation of our school could be tarnished by these shameless impostors, causing unnecessary trouble and confusion for the martial arts community. I am baffled because I have an extremely deep understanding of the people and affairs within the Hak Fu Mun, arguably unmatched by anyone else. Yet, there are individuals whom I do not even recognize, claiming to be the "Eldest Senior Brother"—it is truly incomprehensible. To set the record straight, if anyone encounters individuals claiming to be from the Hak Fu Mun and wishes to verify their authenticity, they can contact me, Leung Wai, or the executive committee of our association. We will gladly provide assistance to clarify the matter.

I also hope that these impostors will turn back from their misguided path, return to the right way, and accumulate immeasurable merit.

Additionally, if any inconvenience has been caused to our fellow martial arts practitioners, I sincerely ask for your understanding and forgiveness.

Leung Wai

Solemn Statement

Since 1928, when Great Master Wong Cheung brought the martial arts of Siu Lum Hak Fu Mun from mainland China to Hong Kong, the teachings of the Hak Fu Mun have been passed down for over half a century, widely recognized within the martial arts community. In 1974, our school issued "martial arts invitations" across Hong Kong, inviting martial arts practitioners from all over the city to witness and acknowledge the official registration and establishment of the "Siu Lum Hak Fu Mun Wong Cheung Athletic Association."

Over the decades, our association has been known in Hong Kong by various names: "Wong Cheung Martial Arts Association," "Yik Kwan Wong Cheung Athletic Association," "Siu Lum Hak Fu Mun Wong Cheung Athletic Association," "Wong Cheung Alumni Association," and "Siu Lum Hak Fu Mun Wong Cheung Martial Arts Association." In summary, it is collectively referred to as "Siu Lum Hak Fu Mun" or "Hak Fu Mun". After the passing of Great Master Wong Cheung, his disciples, following his final wishes, maintained a low profile and formed the "Wong Cheung Disciples Association." Every year, on the anniversary of our late master's birth, we gather for a meal, bringing together many fellow disciples to strengthen our bonds. However, we did not participate in any external activities during this time. In recent years, after extensive discussions among the senior disciples, we decided to reorganize to enhance unity and communication. In 2012, we officially re-registered under the name "Siu Lum Hak Fu Mun Wong Cheung Martial Arts Association." Our association is a formally registered non-profit organization with no "branches" or "affiliated associations"! (For more details, please visit the "About Us" section on our website.)

Thank you very much for your attention.
